Khan Acamdemy

Salman Khan, a genius educator.

Millions of people all around the world watch Khan Academy.

Khan Academy is a world famous algebra website created by a 37 year old teacher called, Salman Khan. Khan Academy is  a non profit site that has 10 minute videos teaching you all kinds of math. Salman thinks that if you have a funny face on screen, kids can't focus very well. So he puts up a black background and uses a drawing pad and records the screen and his voice. Khan studied at Harvard University and worked as Hedge Fund Analyst. He started working as a hedge fund analyst in 2004, and quit in 2009.

Khan Academy started when his 7th grade cousin was having trouble in algebra. Salman agreed to give her some tutoring lessons. He uploaded some of his lessons to youtube and started from there. Khan said random strangers started to watch his videos and asked for him to make more. After quitting his job, Salman was working full time on his new website. After a while into the website, the famous Bill Gates became a fan and donated 15 million dollars towards Khans new website. 2 years ago Salman met Bill and was starstruck.

Khan says he will never put a price tag on Khan Academy and says education should be free.

A Weird Tattoo

Today we had to answer these questions from this article,

1. Who is the main person or group of people in this news article? The main person is an 18 year old teen, Stian Ytterdahl.
2. What was the key event from the news article?
The key event in this article is that Stian's friends were jealous of his success with the local girls so his friends gave him a choice to either get his latest McDonald's order tattooed on his arm or Barbie.
3. Where did this event take place?
In Norway.
4. When did this event take place?
On April the 1st.
5. Why did this event happen?
Because Stian's friends were jealous of his luck with the local girls.

1. Find a quote from the main person in this news article?
Stian said he will now never forget his trip to McDonald's including three cheeseburgers, a happy meal and a McFlurry.
2. In your own words describe what happened in this news article.
A Norwegian Teen was having a lot of luck with the local girls. His friends got jealous and gave him the choice of two tattoos. One being a McDonalds receipt and the other option, a Barbie.
3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.
This event took place in Norway. Norway is officially known as the Kingdom of Norway. Norway is often described as "The land of the midnight sun" Norway has a population of about 5.08 million people.
4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.
This event happened on April 1st. In the future I think that people will ask him alot of questions about his tattoo, like why did you get that, or what were you thinking! Stian has to remember that the tattoo will now stay with him for the rest of his life. It might be funny now but wait until he's in his 60's!
5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.
This event took place because Stian's friends were jealous of his success with the local girls.
6. Use the Dictionary in the bottom right hand corner to find the meaning of 3 words from the article.
1. Permanent - Lasting, Enduring, Invariable
2. Tattoo - Permanent skin decoration.
3. Option - Choice, Alternative, Selection.
My opinion of this article is,
I think that Stian made a very stupid choice. It might be funny now being a teenager but what happens when he's trying to get a job? I don't think it will be quite funny then.
